CASDA consultants serve as key personnel or co-investigators on contracts and grants and can help with the grant proposal development, including sample size selection, data management, and statistical methods writing. MU affiliated faculty and staff can receive occasional free statistical support for their grant proposal development if they belong to one of the campus collaborators.

There are multiple ways in which the CASDA can participate in grant proposals.

An approach that will fit the needs of many clients is for the CASDA to be budgeted as a key personnel or co-investigator on the grant proposal and to contribute statistical consulting to the preparation of the proposal. In the preparation stage, we can provide help with the writing of statistical components, including study design, sample size calculations, statistical analysis plan, estimation of the cost of future statistical work, such as data analyses and results interpretation. This will typically involve some funding and academic credit for participation in the funded research and full intellectual engagement in the project. Please contact us early in your planning stage. The minimum allotted time is 10% FTE for a CASDA statistician per year of post award.

Actual shared credit and faculty salary coverage will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis depending on the scope of work for the project. If your consultation with us results in an intellectual contribution to a research paper, then acknowledgement or co-authorship would be warranted. Co-authorship CASDA personnel on publications is appropriate when the statistician makes a substantial contribution to the design, data analysis, or interpretation of results. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis according to common professional standards and is not dependent on funding.

The CASDA is also happy to connect researchers with other faculty members in the Department of Statistics who may be suitable collaborators.
